The Holidays
With every one prepping for Halloween, putting up decorations & planning recipes, I've been getting in the holiday spirit! But, we don't really do anything for Halloween. None of our friends dress up, so there are no parties. The downtown stores hand out candy, so there are not many trick-or-treaters. And we have no children to decorate the house & bodies for.

I do have one honored Halloween tradition ~ Candy corn!

After I ate through the first bag of the regulars, I tried out this "Caramel Candy Corn". Interesting, but not so tasty.

Everywhere we went, I had my eye out for Candy Corn Taffy (I had sampled some from a candy dish). After much searching I found it at Kmart, so go grab yourself a bag! (It tastes pretty much like sugar/marshmallows, but it's great when you don't like half of the flavors from a regular mixed bag)

But...
all of the holiday talk has brought about early Christmas spirit!

Two years ago I made a few fabric drawstring gift bags, and even created my first tutorial. They take about 30 minutes each, so I only had the chance to make a few. And last year I had no time at all, so this year I am starting early.

Fabric Gift Bags - 07

These four bags are all for CD's ~ two drawstring bags in the back, and a newer envelope style in the font. (I plan on making up a new set of tutorials for both styles, with better measurements than last time) I've made another CD and a DVD bag since the photo.

Even though it takes a little more time, I started top-stitching a few parts of the bag so I can work while we watch TV. And this is the reason they are actually getting done this year! I'm going to keep making as many as I can, and put some up on Etsy.

I picked out the next set of fabrics ~

I'm in a very similar place! The day after I got back from my trip I got out the Halloween decorations and got the apartment in the spirit. We bought some cute decorations from Target last year on clearance. I was excited to clear the table and put on the black felt runner wuth skulls and bats on it. We filled our 3 Halloween candy dishes with candy corn and pumpkins because we couldn't find the orange and black M&Ms. Josh loves the candy corn, but I don't care for them (besides, they have gelatin in them). Anyhow, Josh found black and orange Kissables and we have almost finished the second bag!!!

This is going to be the first year in awhile that I am doing nothing for Halloween. There will be 1 or 2 trick-or-treaters and that's it. It's kind of sad.

I too and prepping for Christmas. I want to get a big head start on shopping so that I don't have a big financial burden at the end of December! Also, I am planning to get most people charity gifts from Oxfam. I'll feel better that the presents are being tossed in a yard sale (or worse) and more importantly that they will be helping do some good in this crazy world. I just hope they are appreciated (because I know I would appreciate it).

Sorry for the ramble, I was basically going to make this post in my journal, and now I don't have to!

I thought about printing out a few of the cute decorations the blogging girls have been coming up with (let me know if you want links), but thought it would look too lonely to have only one or two things hanging. I think once we have a house we'll do a little more ~ right now if I put a pumpkin on our "porch", it gets covered up by the bushes, so I don't even bother carving us one.

We are just about to start shopping for Christmas, but haven't started yet. Usually I start getting Justin's gifts earlier, and then we run out of money & Justin has to wait until he can barely order anything online.

For most of our family gifts, we have to wait until we draw names at Thanksgiving to get anything. Last year we bought some gift cards earlier in the year (places like Amazon), so that we could buy the Christmas gifts with those. (Well, I think we bought one card, but we planned on getting more)

Our decorations are all inside (well we have some things in the window too), and we have few, but it is enough to make things feel Halloween-y. I'll probably hit Target's clearance again this year, but nothing really caught my eye. I'd love some of those links by the way!

Great idea to buy gift cards early! You should check out Oxfam too www.oxfamunwrapped.com. They have some nice gifts. I think the UK ones are better, so I may order those. Besides they come with a magnet to say whay your prize was!

I love the oxfamun site, but I think our family would not be appreciative. They would smile and say how nice it was, and then start complaining as soon as they walk out the door. (Also, we usually draws names. We might do it if we were getting a gift for everyone)

I like the sucker covers, but I don't have any suckers :( Thanks for the linkies!

That is too bad about your family, I think some of Josh's family might react the same, but TOO BAD!

I just finished making some of the skeletons. I like the cats & pumpkins as garland, but didn't have enough time to print some of those out before we left.

i saw caramel apple candy corn (red on the bottom) and almost got it because it came in a smaller bag and i did not want to tempt myself with a giant sized bag. instead i got the pumpkin mallocremes, those are so good. i have seen that candy corn taffy at walgreens also.
