More dangly earrings
I am addicted to wearing my long dangly earrings & so I had to make up some more...

These are not all that special ~ glass beads with a red core & bits of silver leaf. I only had four of these beads left & was happy to find a nice project to use them on. They turned out pretty long & I am happy to have another red pair to wear ;)

This was the first pair I got a little artsy with... I took some large teal seed beads & wrapped all around them with wire to create a wire bead (with a little bit of the teal peaking through). The other beads are wrapped around four times & lay on their sides to show off their circular shape.

The wire bead balls were pretty fun to make ~ and just think of what you could do with different colors of beads and colored wire!

And these might be my new favorite pair! XD My husband took our broken tv to school to dissect it for his science classes. I came in afterward & snipped out all of the little capacitors.

Then I wrapped the tops of them a few times(there was a little dip near the top to hold the wire in place) and put them together in a dangly bunch. I've been dying for a new black pair, and the capacitors make them even more fun!

In other news... I also went through all of the earrings I've made & put a dab of silver nail polish on the openings of the jump rings. Not that it substitutes for a good soldering, but hopefully it will keep anything from sliding off & getting lost.

I also finally got around to adding a ruffle onto a low cut shirt. I had a beige shirt that I usually wear under it (with the ruffle), but it got a spot on it, and wasn't that cute anyways, so I cut off the ruffle & sewed it onto the other shirt. It was not a huge project, but I've been putting it off *forever*, so I am proud to have finished it.

And... I've lost over 20 pounds! Woo-hoo ;) I still haven't gotten my reward for 15 lbs. because we never really have any money, so I'm not really trying to come up with a reward for 20. The reward is how skinny I am! :D

Thanks!! I use a free "diet site" called SparkPeople.com where you can track your calories, get new recipes, & get advice on the boards (& more). The most helpful thing for me is being able to look up nutritional information on just about anything, and realizing what food you already eat is healthy & what is not.. sometimes it's a real suprise!

I think the biggest thing for loosing weight is the exercise though ~ we do the Denise Austin Daily workout (comes on Lifetime), which is about 20-25 minutes & *try* to do it everyday. I tried working out with DDR first actually, but I just can't handle the high-speed-hoping trying to get a cardio workout. But I do like to play it for fun ;)

i'm definately going to have to check out that site. sounds like it would be helpful to me, esp. since it's free!

i really like "yourself fitness." have you heard of it? it is a personal trainer for ps2 (or xbox). it tracks your progress, helps you reach specific goals, scolds you when you miss a workout. it it better for me than the workout videos i've used a half dozen times then forgot about.

so glad to hear that you play DDR! i've started playing a few years ago and used to play 2-3 times a week for a and hour or two. i was getting good and my cardio stamina was increasing, then i stopped and now it is so hard to get back.

keep it up! i hope to hear more updates as i like to hear your success (and it'll give me a little boost).

I've never heard of that ~ we don't have a PS2 though, but I would like one just to get Katamari ;) We bought an old Playstation with DDR to get that game, but mostly we are loyal to Nintendo!

I have fun playing DDR, but I don't think I'm that good at it. If I am going fast enough to get some good cardio it is too fast for my feet. One of our pads started messing up too, so we have to spend quite a while messing with it just to get it to work. :(

I like doing the Denise Austin workouts because they are always different so you never get bored of doing the same tape over & over again. She does use a lot of the same moves, but does a good job of mixing up the exercises. And she does a good job warming up beforhand, adding in some weight lifting, & stretching afterwards, which are all very important, but easy to skip if you do it on your own. (And she does them safely, so that you won't pull something during the workout.) We've tried a few tapes but like that workout the best XD

well, if you happen to get a ps2 you will definately like katamari. were you able to get the mario ddr? we weren't able to, but i heard that it was easier than the regular versions.

i'm looking into the denise austin times now, thanks for the info.

Right after we bought an old Playstationg with DDR & pads they came out with the DDR for the GameCube. Sigh. (We never got that game because we would have to get another set of pads) I've played a few other games on the Playstation though, so we've gotten our money's worth out of it at least.

Denise comes on pretty early in the morning I believe ~ luckily we have a digital recorder, and do the exercises whenever we want. We probably wouldn't do them if we didn't have the DVR.

I love how the last pair turned out especially because they have the look of an elegant pair of earrings made with recycled pieces. At first I thought I was looking at chrysanthemum stone. Fantastic!

Congrats on your weight loss! I'm down nine pounds so far. I do feel a lot better.

I've been so interested in recycled items/art lately ~ I wish I could come up with some items to sell on the site. I've been wanting to make some earrings out of old computer parts for a while, so this was close enough to please me ;)

In other news... I'm reading "Ender's Shadow", which is a 'parallel' novel to Ender's Game, following the story of Bean. I'm over half-way through & have been enjoying it quite a bit. It is really a different story with some overlaps so far.

I wasn't sure if you were interested in reading more of that series, but I think you might like Ender's second book, "Speaker for the Dead". They find a new, primitive alien species & the book follows the anthropologists that are there to study the species & how the planet has developed. (There are some really interesting animal-plant relationships as well.)

He actually wrote the second book, then wrote Ender more to give a history leading up to that book. Then his editor found a publisher for his 'trilogy', so he had to come up with a third book. He didn't like that book much & later lengthened it into two books ~ Justin read those two books (3rd & 4th in the series) & liked them pretty well but said they were slow reading & didn't recommend them... probably because the writer flushed them out so much! Anyways, that is not important, but I thought that whole story about how the books were put together was pretty interesting. (The parallel series developed later, I'm getting interested in reading more of those as well)

Weren't you aiming for 10 lbs? You're almost there!!

I should probably lose another 10-15 lbs. I am at the high end of a healthy weight range for me because my frame is small. At this point, my diet is really healthy and balanced which is great. I should be able to get back into exercise in the next two weeks which will help so much. I am almost able to bend my ring finger into a fist. Now that the swelling is almost gone, I should be able to start lifting light weights without accidentally hurling them into the air :) What I'm really missing is yoga because I can't put my body weight on my hand (to do a push up), but I'm almost there. I can't even describe what a relief that is :) I am trying to take everything slowly and I am hoping to be at my goal in September.

I'm looking forward to reading more of the Dune series as well as the Ender series. All I have left to read in Dune is the appendix. I did read the glossary as I went along. I am so funny with trilogies because when I enjoy them, it takes me a few years to get all the books because I don't want them to end.

Oh, I didn't know your finger was still that bad :( I've never actually tried yoga, and I don't think I could get Justin to try it!

I would definently recommend the first three Dune book ~ the second is a little slow, but a good story.. and it builds up to the third (which was just as good as the first book). I've read 4, but it was maybe 3,000 years later with a different set of people, and after that I just needed a break. I need to finish off the rest though.

I know what you mean about not wanting them to end ~ as soon as I finished Dune I wanted to jump right into the next book, I was devestated it was over. But I was borrowing the book, and I wanted to buy a whole matching set & had to wait a while.

I just *sort of* finished the Shadow book ~ it was from the library, and the next to last page was missing!! They don't have another copy, so now I'm going to have to figure out how to get a copy :( Can you believe it? Next I am reading a recommendation from Sarada ~ Oryx & Crake by Margaret Atwood.

Really, my finger isn't too bad at all. It's just a little swollen still and I can't close my fist completely but I'm almost there. I'm doing all the silly finger exercises every day and it's really helping. I should have purchased some finger puppets to entertain myself :) I'm in the final phase of healing so it's all good.

Oryx and Crake is one of the few Atwood novels I haven't read. My summer reading list keeps growing! Let me know what you think of it.

I can't believe that missing page. Could you take a peek at a bookstore copy for closure?

That's one thing we don't have in this town, a good bookstore. I'd probably have to drive 15-20 minutes to find a place that would carry the book (same city my fabric store is in!). I think we are going to do it this weekend & I will just sit there & read the last few pages!

I think I have amnesia about needing to drive to get to most places ;) I've been living near center city for 5 years so I am spoiled for convenience.

I do have to plan to get to the post office which though not too far on foot is not right in my immediate neighborhood. I plan my day around being in that area so mailing isn't always immediate (but I'm headed there tomorrow). It's always worth the walk though because the people working there are so incredibly nice. The ladies behind the counter always stop and admire the packages I send out.

If you're anything like sarada (hugs if she's reading this), I imagine not having a fabric store in walking distance a safer thing :)

We actually live right next to town, but it is not really an area that you can walk around in easily... busy roads to cross, stores spread out. We thought about moving into one of the loft apartments in the downtown area (where stores are all togeter), but the train runs through there & would wake us up at night.

But, there are a few stores this town does not have ~ We are only about 20 min from a really large business area, with a nice mall & any store you could want, so they don't build a lot of the large branches over here (like Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, etc.)

I have no idea, but I noticed it was gone too & erased it from the list of lj-communities we have listed. We don't really have any affiliation with the other craftgrrl comms, they were just started by members, so I have no inside info ;)

Are you looking for swap sites? There are a few of those I've heard that are good ~ [info]swapstuff & sotm_swap.
