Salvaging Clothes
Lately I've been trying to go through my closet,
pick out the items I never wear & try to make them wearable.
Here's what I've been up to this week ~

Pants to Stenciled Skirt
Once upon a time, I tried wearing an apron while I painted. I hardly ever get paint on my clothes normally, but I had an apron, so why not? I wiped my brush on it as I painted, and when I took it off, the water & paint had actually soaked through & got paint on the pants I was wearing. >:( That was my last time wearing an apron.

I tried painting a design over it, it cracked. I wove ribbons over it, sewed in place. I got tired of it. The pants lived in the 'skinny pants' box for a few years, and now that I can wear them again (and saw what a horrible cut they had) I thought I would give them a new life...

I chopped them down, and moved the pocket from the right leg on to the butt. I covered the pocket with a piece from the leg & stenciled over it. Stenciled with freezer paper & craft acrylic paint mixed with textile medium. A layer of black with silver shading.

Shortened & De-sleeved Dress
This is a dress I bought years ago at the thrift store. There is just no good occasion to wear it (mostly because of the long sleeves), but it was too unique to get rid of. I shortened it & removed the sleeves to make it look more casual & modern.

The sleeves have little zipper at the wrists, which I alway thought was neat & was sad to cut off. Then I realized I could turn them into arm warmers ;) (Haven't made those yet) Here is a close up of the swirls that are on the front of the dress if you are interested (the neck is not usually bunchy like that).

Thanks! ;) I feel like I took away some of it's unique-ness, but it is *much* cuter this way. It might actually see daylight now!

That dress is awesome. I say you throw a party right now, just so you can wear it.

They're both terrific! I don't think I quite understand the khaki skirt project, though; are they both "after" pictures, or like the dress, is the first picture the "before" and the second picture the "after"? Are there swirls on both the front and back, or just the back now?

The skirt pictures are all 'after' shots, one set from the front, one from the back. I didn't want to take a before pictures because the pants looked so bad.

The dress has swirls down the front only, the back is just plain black fabric.

Sorry, I read it wrong ~
The skirt used to be a plain pair of cargo pants. I turned them into a skirt & stenciled on them. The designs are on the front & back. ;)

I LOVE the skirt, so very cute :) And the dress went from frumpy and too long for you to fabulous and fun :)

Great job!
