Unicorn Bag, Fortune Albulm, Handmade Book
I feel like I have been working on 100 things lately,
but have been really bad about taking pictures & updating ;)

I've decided I want to make more animal appliques for Phunky Monkey ~ I have been really uninspired for appliques lately, and have just left them off a lot of things. When I do pick one, it seems like I'm just choosing between a flower, shroom, word... I should let my love of animals show ;) (if there is an applique you'd like to see, don't be shy about suggesting something either!)

So, I'm about finished with a brown bear dress, and today I'll be working on this bag ~

For a long time I've been collecting fortunes (from cookies) to pair up with photos for a scrapbook/albulm type of thing. There are so many fortunes that are really funny when you use them as a caption for the right photo. I finally collected enough to match about 30 or 35 pictures, then I bought a box of cookies to match up the remaining few. I ended up with 40 pages (one picture and fortune per page).

Unfortunently, a lot of these would not be funny to other people (other than our friends), without me having to explain what is happening, who the person is, etc. So without much explanation, here are a few ~

"There is a prospect of a thrilling time ahead for you."

"You and your spouse will be happy in your life together." (my husband)

"Your smile makes the world a lovely and beautiful place."
I don't know if you can tell from the picture, but that is the most hideous smile the world has ever seen (girl in front). I am the redhead in the flame shoes ;)

I had small pieces of paper left over from cutting the pages for the albulm. I've been wanting to try making a book for a while now, so I finally it out. I learned a lot of things and will make some changes next time, so look forward to seeing some nicer books in the future. I would like to make these for letterboxing. I'm not really sure what I will do with this book and it's black paper, but I do have silver sharpies, so I'll probably just jot notes in it.

Another fun thing to do with a fortune cookie is to ask a question and then open the cookie. Hilarity insues or perhaps some great wisdom is attained, mostly the former if I were keeping score. I love fortune cookies as picture captions. Would they make good earrings if somehow laminated or glued to wood?

I love bears, not just the subculture but the actual animals, so I am very excited about the bear dress. (Gentle readers who may not be aware, the word "bear" is often used to describe a big/tall gay man, often wearing a denim jacket and often interested in Harleys but sometimes the latter is a considered a cliche, but the big/tall part is mostly a requirement. I have heard that women can also be bears.) I digress.

I have temporarily gotten over my shyness to request owl (maybe a snowy owl on a blue night sky background but really any non-tootsie roll pop owl will do), deer, ladybug, bluebirds (or any songbirds) appliques. Did you do a black cat dress before?

Oh my... subculture ;) I was wondering if PA had some sort of bear mascot for a sports team, haha. I haven't heard that one before! (The dress definently does not have a tall denim-clad gay male applique, in case you were wondering)

Feel free to suggest or request any appliques! I don't do custom order for most people, but I am happy to make custom order for my regulars. I've had girls ask for an applique and certain patchwork/colors and I know I don't have to ask about every element of the dress (like do you want a ruffle along the botttom, or gathered under the bust, on & on). I always feel like I need to ask about all of those things for normal custom orders, and the person usually has no idea what I am talking about so it is stressful for both of us. But my regulars... they know what is going on and if there is something they are particular about.

Years ago I thought about a deer skirt but never got around to it ~ I'll have to pull out that design again. And no, I haven't done a cat but I've been thinking about it lately (only the kitten-fairy bag). I love all of your ideas ;)
